Sometimes, my 9 year old gets in a 'helping' mood. Like yesterday when she came home from school and wanted to help entertain the 4 year old. I was finishing up some loose ends in the studio before the wee one woke up from her nap, when I hear some beating and banging coming from the kitchen. She was explaining to her how to make popsicles with our heart and flower cupcake molds and was trying to dig them out from under all the other pans. Well, of course this wakes up the baby...but honestly, how can I say anything when she is trying to be so helpful, tee hee.
So while I was up getting the baby and changing her diaper...the 'helper' and her student pour ALL of the Halloween candy ALL over the kitchen counter. When I ask how we went from making popsicles to digging through candy...well, 'we are putting candy IN the popsicles Mom.' Oh, of course...why didn't I think of that ;-) Except they were putting candy in water and then it was getting all gross...so I said...'you must have a yummy flavor if you are making popsicles, you don't just want yucky candy ice do you?'
They agreed! I don't even know where that pack of kool-aid came from...but it was there and we whipped it together...and poured half of it all over the floor while trying to fill the molds, yay. Then, she has this genius idea to put plastic wrap over the molds, poke holes in the top, cut straws in half and stick them in the top before freezing them. Ya know, I've heard of doing this...but we never have. Where did she get that idea from? Sometimes, I just sit (with my mouth wide open I'm sure) and wonder what she'll come up with next. She's waaaaay more creative than I'll ever be and it makes me smile ear-to-ear!
Last week, she planned this elaborate Tea Party with her friends and their Webkins so she pulled all of her old socks that were getting too small out of her drawer. I swear, she looked like Will Farrell in Elf when he was cutting all of the paper snowflakes. She made dresses and suits for her animals out of old socks and they actually looked really cute!
I don't know where I was going with this post, but it seems that I have learned that it's okay to lighten up and make messes when the kiddos are being creative and trying new things. I'm learning to say 'yes' more when the girls want to do things like this. They have fun...which makes me have fun and who cares if we have to clean up afterward...right?
Oh, and I just added a new banner to the shop! It's really cute & it says 'believe,' so it could be used for Christmas and all throughout the year (since it's not done in Christmas paper).
There is lots of crystal glitter on the crepe paper rosettes even though the lighting was horrible and you can't tell. As soon as the sun comes out, I'll take more pictures...oh how the sun is my friend.
Aaaaand, I'm up for doing custom banners so if anyone has an idea or a party coming up...please let me know and I'd be glad to make one for you.
Big Hugs, Jamie :)
