It's not very often that we get a day where we can chill or take an unplanned adventure. These girls keep us busy busy with their sports and activities, so when we get a chance, we take full advantage! This past weekend, we got that chance, and we had beautiful weather, so we chose to go geocaching, visit some friends at a winery, and try out a local ice-cream/eatery.

Ya gotta love these kinds of caches where you climb all over, look
under, poke, turn and pull every little thing, but you still can't find
it! I'm glad I looked before swiping my hand under the railings of this
one because there were two wasps nests in the corners. My guess is that
this one is probably in the bushes or tree behind this 'claw,' and the
cache owner cracks up everytime someone claims a DNF. Okay, maybe that's
all in my head, but I'll be re-visiting this one until I find it, don't
you worry ;)
This one was easy for the girls...a magnetic key box on the back of a newspaper box, that was hidden a bit by some shrubbery. These are the ones that I pretend to not see, so the girls can get the 'yay, I found it!' feeling :)

I love geocaching and discovering cool and historic places! We came across this place when looking for a cache near a church and graveyard. We didn't find it and after looking back in the logs, it looks like it has gone missing, with only a fishline attached to a fence left. But I'm so glad we went looking for it, because we are having family photos taken next weekend and have been trying to find a good place to take them. This might just be the place!

This one was my 2nd attempt (I tried to find it last year with no luck) and once I found it, I can't believe I didn't see it the first time! Does this ever happen to you?

You know these...the lamp post cache? They are good ones for the kids too, but somehow I'm always the one who has to stick my hand in.

We also found a super cool cache...my favorite of the day! It was one of those 'the screw is just a little off' caches ;) It was under a bench at a ballpark. We looked and looked and I just knew it was on the fence somewhere. But after looking high and low, we decided to crawl around and look under the benches. To a 'muggles' eye, it would look normal, but I saw a screw, where a screw shouldn't be and bam! It was all said and done, tee hee.
We actually only found 9 caches and we might have looked and not found almost just as many. But we had so much fun just being and exploring and not having to be anywhere at a certain time! Several of them we'd get close and then it'd just be too deep in the woods or one of the kids would have to pee, or I had to use a judgement call on how safe it was. And a couple were at locations that were crawling with the Saturday night dinner crowd so we'll have to try again when they are less busy.
Also, I was really bummed because there were a few I remember wanting to get, but then I couldn't find them on my geocaching app and I realized it's because they are 'members only' caches and I let my membership run out, boo :( Guess I need to renew!
What's your favorite kind of cache? Have you encountered any of these types?
Jamie :)
